LISBON, Ohio – In recognition of Manufacturing Month, the Columbiana County Port Authority has planned efforts designed to promote existing manufacturers and to encourage development of new ones.
“The port authority is proud to continue its tradition of honoring our manufacturers in several ways,” Executive Director Brittany R. Smith said after Monday’s board of directors meeting.
For those already in business, the port authority is sponsoring Made in Columbiana County Spotlight, for which nominations are being accepted until Oct. 1.
Nominations from local communities will be considered, with five outstanding manufacturers recognized for their innovations, community involvement, job creation and industry excellence. Each honoree will receive a feature on the port authority’s social media platforms along with a special recognition plaque.
Nominee forms are available on the port authority’s website.
For the younger set, the port authority is building on Manufacturing the Future scholarships awarded earlier this year in partnership with the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center. Students will be selected from the machinery and welding programs to tour local manufacturing companies.
“These tours provide invaluable, hands-on experiences for our future workforce,” Smith said.
October is a time to highlight the importance of modern manufacturing, inspire future generations to pursue careers in the field and recognize the industry’s contributions to the local economy and global marketplace, Smith said.
“Through these efforts, we look forward to celebrating the impact of manufacturing in Columbiana County and inspiring the next generation of makers,” she said.
