YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, in partnership with the Dr. James Dale Ethics Center at Youngstown State University, will host a free continuing legal education seminar May 15.
The Legal Ethics Update and the Broader Impact of Attorney Discipline seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. at YSU’s Williamson College of Business Administration. Light refreshments will be provided.
The two-part workshop is approved by the Supreme Court of Ohio Commission on Continuing Legal Education for 2.5 hours of attorney professional conduct credit and will explore both foundational and emerging issues in legal ethics.
Part 1: Collateral Consequences of Attorney Discipline will examine the broader impacts of attorney discipline beyond formal sanctions, including effects on reputation, career mobility and access to justice, along with potential reforms. Part 2: Legal Ethics Update will cover emerging issues such as bar licensure pathways, civility in the profession, ethics in the use of artificial intelligence and recent ABA model rule updates and advisory opinions.
The seminar will be led by Heather Zirke, assistant professor of law and director of The Joseph G. Miller and William C. Becker Center for Professional Responsibility at the University of Akron School of Law.
The seminar will open with welcome remarks from Casey Krell, president of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, and an introduction by Mark C. Vopat, director of the Dr. James Dale Ethics Center at YSU.
