WARREN, Ohio – Trumbull County commissioners Thursday reappointed Sam Covelli to the Western Reserve Port Authority Board of Directors for an additional four years.

Covelli, owner and operator of Covelli Enterprises, was first appointed to the board Aug. 27, 2014, and was previously reappointed in 2018 and 2022.

The port authority has “made significant strides,” Covelli said in a statement.

“Serving as a board member of the Port Authority is an important responsibility and a true privilege,” he said. “I am humbled to be able to actively contribute to the growth and economic development of the Mahoning Valley, helping to create opportunities that strengthen local businesses and attract new investment.”

At a recent port authority meeting, Covelli was appointed vice chair and will continue to serve as chairman of the board’s economic development committee. His new term on the board will expire Dec. 31, 2029.

Trumbull County Commissioner Rick Hernandez praised Covelli’s contributions to the board.

“Mr. Covelli brings a very good professional feel to that board,” Hernandez said after Thursday’s commissioners meeting. “We’re very happy that he is on the Western Reserve Port Authority.”

Hernandez touted all of the positive developments that have been flowing into the county through the partnership with the port authority, including Kimberly-Clark’s $800 million project. He also said the county is working with the port authority to get the Chestnut Building in Warren, which formerly housed the county’s health board, refurbished and ready to sell. The port authority will receive a percentage of the sale, and the county will use the remaining money for other projects.
