WARREN, Ohio – The Cover Down Fund will mark its one-year anniversary of serving veterans in the Mahoning Valley with a community-wide flag placement event honoring fallen veterans.

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Pine View Cemetery. The organization, alongside community volunteers, will place American flags on the graves of veterans in advance of Memorial Day as a tribute to the men and women who served the nation. Community members are encouraged to participate in the annual act of remembrance and gratitude.

The organization will also recognize its 2026 scholarship recipients during a special awards presentation at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Salvatore’s Italian Grill. The event will honor 11 scholarship recipients alongside their families and supporters.

The Cover Down Fund was founded in May 2025 as a grassroots nonprofit organization. It has raised more than $75,000 in its first year to support veterans and military families throughout the Valley.

Over the past year, the organization has presented “Modern Warrior Live,” a program focused on post-traumatic growth and the veteran experience; delivered more than $10,000 in food assistance to veterans and families in need; and awarded more than $15,000 in educational scholarships to local students connected to the military and veteran community.
