Cracker Barrel is bringing back its old logo after a week of criticism that caused its stock price to plummet.
The national restaurant chain made the announcement in a statement it released Tuesday evening.
“We said we would listen, and we have,” the statement reads. “Our new logo is going away and our ‘Old Timer’ will remain.”
The “Old Timer” is Uncle Herschel, the man depicted in the old logo seated next to a barrel. The logo was in use from 1977 until earlier this year, when the chain began to phase out the imagery as part of a rebranding effort.
It launched a new logo last week that simply used the words Cracker Barrel, but without any art.
The design drew a swift negative reaction on social media that was largely fueled by conservative influencers such as Donald Trump Jr. They accused the chain of abandoning its traditional American roots.
But negative reaction to the new logo quickly spread across the political spectrum in a nonpartisan way, with social media users calling it bland and lacking in the chain’s nostalgic atmosphere.
On Aug. 21, two days after the new logo was unveiled, Cracker Barrel’s stock plunged by more than 13%.
