Cruze Regains Top Spot in Valley Auto Sales
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sales of new and used cars in the Mahoning Valley fell 5.4% in January, according to data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association, with 4,174 vehicles delivered locally last month.
Most of the loss was in the sales of used vehicles, the monthly report showed, as new car sales fell to 2,483, just three fewer than January 2015.
The report tallies car titles processed in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
The four most popular cars, as well as the only models to reach triple-digit sales, in the Mahoning Valley were all Chevrolets.
The Lordstown-built Cruze took the top spot for the first time in more than a year with 182 leaving showrooms, a 59.6% increase from the same month last year. The other four in the top five were the Equinox, 153 sold, the Silverado at 144, the Malibu, 117, and the Ford Escape, 97.
Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, led new-vehicle sales among area dealers with 230 sold, followed by Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, with 155. Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, ranked third with 106 cars, trucks and SUVs sold, while Fred Martin Ford, Austintown, and Stadium Chevrolet GMC Buick Cadillac, Salem, finished the month with 92 and 90 sold, respectively.
The top dealerships for used-car sales were Fairway Ford, Canfield, with 70, followed by Greenwood Chevy with 69 and Donnell Ford, Boardman, 65.
