Valley Foods to Present Plans for Expansion Downtown
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Valley Foods is adding 14,000 square feet to its downtown Youngstown manufacturing plant and warehouse.
An application for the pre-engineered metal building, with metal roof and metal siding panels, to be constructed at Valley Foods’s existing building at 335 E. Boardman St., is one of two items scheduled for the agenda of the city’s Design Review Committee, which meets this morning.
Construction on Valley Foods’ addition is expected to be completed by mid-spring, providing the company with more production and storage space, said David Roose, project manager at Strollo Architects.
The expansion will add 7,400 square feet of factory space and 6,600 square feet for freezer and cooler storage, he said. He referred questions related to the reason for the expansion to the company.
GreenHeart, headquartered in Boardman, is seeking to perform exterior alterations to the Legal Arts building. These include repairing masonry; covering existing brick focal wall with Hardie board panel siding; caulking and painting exterior wall panels and adjacent surfaces; replacing the storefront system; repairing and replacing the parking deck hollow core plank; and repairing and replacing soffit lighting.
The other development item on the Design Review Committee agenda is related to GreenHeart Companies’ ongoing renovation of the Legal Arts Centre at the corner of Market and Boardman streets downtown.
A GreenHeart subsidiary purchased the building in 2019, but work on it was put off until GreenHeart completed the Campus Lofts student housing project near Youngstown State University. Parking at the Legal Arts building deck was demolished and replaced. Last August, GreenHeart President Brian Angelilli said the company was in discussions with potential tenants for first-floor space.
Officials with Valley Foods and GreenHeart did not respond to requests for comment Monday. Representatives for both projects are expected to participate in today’s meeting, which will be conducted virtually.
