YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – During a visit to Eagle’s Christian Preschool & Child Care on Thursday, Gov. Mike DeWine discussed his proposed family tax cut, an initiative aimed at easing the financial burden for working families across the state.

“We have parents with young children who are working hard every day and yet are still feeling strained. Investing in our families is worth it because when our families are stronger, all of Ohio is stronger,” DeWine said. “My family tax cut proposal will provide real relief to parents, helping with costs of food, clothes, diapers and other essential needs so more families can thrive.”

Under the family tax cut proposal, working families would receive a tax cut of up to $1,000 for each child under age 7. This would help 450,000 families in Ohio, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

The governor and first lady Fran DeWine toured the Youngstown preschool, visited classrooms and met with staff members to learn more about the center’s early childhood programs.

The center has earned gold level status through the Ohio Department of Children and Youth’s Step Up to Quality program. It also offers early childhood education, with curriculum aligned with the Science of Reading.

Eagle’s Christian Preschool & Child Care serves more than 400 children and more than 200 families in its three locations across northeastern Ohio, many of whom receive state support for child care through Ohio’s Child Care Choice Voucher Program.

The Child Care Choice Voucher Program provides financial assistance to eligible families, helping them access quality child care while parents work, attend school or participate in job training. The program supports early learning and development by ensuring children receive care in safe, nurturing environments, the release states.
