NILES, Ohio – Construction has begun on a new Next Generation Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Eastwood Mall.
The new, larger format store will relocate from its current 52,000-square-foot building in the adjacent Great East Plaza, where it has been since 2004.
The new location will have 72,000 square feet of space and will be inside the enclosed mall.
The move is a major investment in the local community for Dick’s, according to a news release from the mall.
The format of the new store will bring together a selection of team-sport gear for baseball, softball, soccer, football, lacrosse and hockey. The store will also include a House of Cleats, which will showcase a 360-degree view of more than 400 cleats across multiple sports. The store will feature an expanded premium footwear assortment and multiple golf hitting bays equipped with Trackman technology.
“Moving and expanding Dick’s Sporting Goods to a premium anchor position within the mall is expected to drive significant traffic, benefit all of our tenants and further solidify Eastwood Mall Complex as the region’s premier one-stop destination to shop, dine, stay and play,” said Johnny Chechitelli, director of marketing and communications for Cafaro Corp., owner of the mall.
The current Dick’s Sporting Goods location will remain open until the new store opens, which is anticipated to be in the summer.
Eastwood Mall is one of America’s largest shopping centers, with nearly 200 department stores, specialty shops, restaurants, hotels and entertainment options. It is owned and managed in association with Cafaro-affiliated companies, based in Niles.
