Donor generosity to the Community Foundation of Western Pennsylvania & Eastern Ohio fueled its impact in 2025.
Individuals, families and organizations came together to support neighbors in need, strengthen nonprofits and invest in the long-term health of their communities, according to Kyle English, executive director. Every gift, large and small, helped move resources where they were needed most.
Collectively, that generosity resulted in more than $36 million in donations to the foundation in 2025, with 87% of gifts at $1,000 or less. Donors then directed over $21 million in grants with 48% under $1,000, providing timely support to hundreds of organizations that are helping the most vulnerable.
“These numbers reflect not just scale, but the power of many people giving intentionally to create lasting local impact,” English says.
Founded in 1981, the foundation advanced new impact-investing and loan strategies allowing charitable dollars to be recycled and redeployed for community benefit. Philanthropy supports community revitalization while also preserving capital for future use, extending the life and reach of every dollar given.
Since launching in 2020, LIFT [Lifting Individuals for the Trades] has helped 112 students complete training programs and enter long-term, rewarding careers in the skilled trades.
The Foundation completed a three-year strategic plan, in partnership with community stakeholders, which will strengthen the connection between donor generosity and lasting community impact.
“Your generosity makes this work possible…,” English says. “Guided by our founding belief that anyone can be a philanthropist, we remain committed to helping every donor experience the impact and fulfillment that comes from giving back.”
