Donor to Match Pledges to LiveStrong at YMCA Program
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – An anonymous donor has blessed the YMCA of Youngstown — and adult cancer survivors — by promising to match up to $6,000 on GivingTuesday for the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Program.
GivingTuesday, this year celebrated Dec. 3, is a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity. The gift of empowerment for adult cancer survivors is the focus of GivingTuesday at the YMCA of Youngstown this year.
The LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program is a free 12-week program in which adult cancer survivors experience improved fitness and quality of life as well as significant decreases in cancer-related fatigue. Thanks to generous donations, this program is offered at no cost to the survivors.
What does it mean if we reach our goal of $12,000 on GivingTuesday?
It means the YMCA would be able to provide two additional 12-week LIVESTRONG at the YMCA cohorts for cancer survivors! The need is critical, as the YMCA has had an ongoing waiting list of survivors hoping to participate in this program since it was first offered in 2014.
“As a graduate of the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA program, I know how much it helped me through a very difficult time,” says Bobbie, one of the past participants. “I remember how surprised I was to learn that this wonderful program was offered to me free of charge. I will always be grateful to the YMCA and the caring, compassionate instructors who mentored our class. Keep up the good work!”
Donors wishing to make a contribution to the YMCA of Youngstown for GivingTuesday should go to YMCAyo.org/givingtuesday. Donations will be DOUBLED, thanks to a generous match, up to $6,000, from an anonymous donor.
