YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University will host education policy professor Josh Cowen for its Dr. Thomas and Albert J. Shipka Speakers Series at 12:30 p.m. April 22.

The presentation will be held in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.

Cowen’s presentation, “School Vouchers, Culture Wars, and Defending the Public Good,” will cover a brief history of school vouchers, a discussion of what the current research says about their effects on children and families and an explanation of how vouchers are part of the current historical and political moment.

Cowen is a professor at Michigan State University and a senior fellow at the Education Law Center. His writing about education politics and policy has appeared in the Brooking Institution Chalkboard, Time Magazine, Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle, Philadelphia Inquirer and The New Republic.

The event is free and open to the public.
