YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center continues to expand access to breast cancer screening through its main center, community screening locations and mobile mammography service.
The center performed about 20,000 exams last year, while the mobile mammography unit completed more than 2,200 screening mammograms. The mobile unit visits medical practices, businesses, churches and community events to make screenings more convenient for women.
The center also uses funds raised through the Panerathon to help uninsured and underinsured women through Joanie’s Promise. The program covers qualifying breast imaging and biopsies, helping remove financial barriers to care.
Center staff say making screening more accessible can lead to earlier detection and treatment while helping women receive care closer to home.
