STRUTHERS, Ohio – Aqua Ohio contractors will begin replacing the water main under the Bridge Street railroad crossing Monday.
The work will require the intersection of Bridge and State streets to be closed from Oct. 15 to Oct. 23. Detour signs will direct traffic around the closure.
Traffic on State and Bridge streets south of the railroad crossing will be maintained, as well as access to Main and Liberty streets and Bob Cene Way north of the railroad crossing. Access to all downtown businesses, including Donavito’s Restaurant, Selah Restaurant, Astro Shapes, ECMSI, Sulmona Valley, CASTLO Industrial Park and Green Leaf Therapy will be open and maintained.
This is the final portion of a $1.6 million water main replacement project that began earlier this year.
“The purpose of this project is to increase water flow and improve reliability of service through Struthers and in the city of Campbell and assure adequate water supply for periods of high demand,” said Jennifer Johnson, Aqua Ohio area manager. “We realize the inconvenience the construction process has had on downtown businesses and commuters and we appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this important upgrade to the water system.”
Johnson said the project is part of $12 million that Aqua will invest in the Mahoning Valley and $76 million across the company’s 40 Ohio systems this year.
