COLUMBIANA, Ohio – An exhibition and sale of art by local artists will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15 in Firestone Park.
The Art in Her Heart: Idabelle Firestone Fine Art Exhibition and Sale will showcase works and provide a unique opportunity to purchase them in an intimate garden setting.
It will take place in the Idabelle Firestone Gathering Place and Garden at the park, a space created a few years ago during the renovation of the park at 338 E. Park Ave. It is an outdoor hilltop amphitheater that honors Idabelle Firestone’s legacy as a pioneering patron of the arts, music and flower gardens in her day.
The annual event is presented by the Firestone Cultural and Custodial Committee. The rain date will be Aug. 22.
The deadline to submit art is Aug. 15.
The exhibition and sale will feature original artwork across a range of mediums, including two- and three-dimensional original paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures and ceramics.
The exhibition is free and open to the public. Artists are invited to apply to this juried show by filling out an application and submitting three photo examples of their work. All artist applications will be reviewed before being accepted. Entry fee is $35, and no additional commissions from sales will be taken by the sponsoring organization.
The featured artist this year is Christopher Leeper, a full-time artist from Canfield. Among many artistic accomplishments, he is a published author and illustrator of four children’s books for the Smithsonian and African Wildlife Foundation. He is a member of the adjunct art faculty at Youngstown State University. Examples of his art will be displayed in the main tent on the grounds.
Special features at this year’s event will include:
- A children’s creative art table by Barb Schmidt of Warm Heart Studio.
- Cellist Ed Madej performing from noon to 3 p.m.
- Mike’s 80’s Ice Cream Truck and a Chick-fil-A concession stand.
In addition, the main tent will feature “Local Color,” a booth with a display of landscapes, buildings and landmarks in Columbiana and the surrounding area, with part of the proceeds going to Squeaky Wheel Theater.
Local philanthropist Pat Tingle is the founder of the event.
“We are proud to launch a series of art events at this special location in the park honoring Idabelle and to allow the community to have the opportunity to view and add a piece of original artwork to their collections,” she said.
Artists can submit an entry form that can be found HERE. The deadline is Aug. 12.

The Legacy center’s hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. A printable form can be downloaded HERE.
