SHARON, Pa. – The inaugural River Market: A Sharon Riverfront Social scheduled for Friday evening has been canceled because of forecasts calling for severe weather.
In an emailed statement, organizers said concerns about heavy rain and thunderstorms prompted the decision, noting that the weather could wash out the outdoor event and the band is unable to play in the rain.
Organizers said the Shenango Valley Animal Shelter, the nonprofit designated to benefit from the June River Market, will still receive support. Quaker Steak & Lube plans to host a Dine-to-Donate fundraiser for the shelter in July. The organization will select a date, and the restaurant will donate 20% of sales from that day to the shelter.
The next River Market is scheduled for July 31, and more details about the event will be announced in the coming weeks.
The River Market event, which aims to bring people together while supporting local businesses and nonprofits, will take place the last Friday of each month through October along the riverfront at the original Quaker Steak & Lube downtown. The event, which will run from 5-9 p.m., is being presented by Allie’s Sweet Tooth, Quaker Steak & Lube and Warehouse Sales, with support by Small Town Storyteller Communications Co. and Sharon Community Development Corp.
