YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley will receive a $50,000 grant from the FirstEnergy Foundation.
The donation is part of $535,000 the foundation is awarding to 15 Ohio food banks and pantries.
It’s part of the organization’s Hunger Action Month initiative that’s granting $2.5 million to 104 hunger relief organizations across New Jersey, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Virginia, marking the foundation’s largest hunger-relief investment to date.
The foundation’s grants will provide more than 1.5 million meals to families in communities served by Ohio Edison, The Illuminating Co. and Toledo Edison.
“The FirstEnergy Foundation is bringing a can-do spirit to the table – working hand-in-hand with trusted local partners to help reduce hunger and make healthy meals more accessible during Hunger Action Month,” said Torrence Hinton, FirstEnergy’s president of Ohio. “Food means more than just nourishment – it’s a source of comfort that brings people together and strengthens bonds with a community. Our employees support that by volunteering and organizing food drives, showing that when we come together, we can make a meaningful impact.”
Last year, the FirstEnergy Foundation donated nearly $800,000 to hunger-related initiatives.
The FirstEnergy Foundation provides support to 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofits that serve and meet the critical needs of customers in communities served by FirstEnergy’s electric operating companies and in areas where the company conducts business. Combined with the Hunger Action Month grants, the foundation has distributed more than $4 million in community support across FirstEnergy’s service area to date in 2025.
