Former Byzantine Church to Be Auctioned Aug. 15

NEWTON FALLS, Ohio – St. Michael Byzantine Church and its 12-acre campus will be auctioned Aug. 15, according to the auction house contracted to sell the property.

“It’s a very modern building,” said Jeff Byce, president of Byce Auction and Byce Realty in Youngstown. “It has a full industrial kitchen and dining hall.”

The campus covers 12.3 acres where the 13,800-square-foot church stands, Byce said. Among the amenities in the church – built in 1988 – are a commercial kitchen, hall, classrooms, apartment, and area for worship.

Also on the land is a single-family ranch house, a bus garage, pavilion and more than 22,000 square feet of paved parking.

“If someone was looking to put a recovery clinic here, they could use this,” Byce said. “That’s some of the interest we’ve received so far.”

If a buyer could secure the zoning variances, he could convert the building into a catering service or dining hall, Byce said.

Bidding ends at 4 p.m. Aug. 15. The auction house is offering a preview of the property from 4 to 6 p.m. July 24.

“Buyers are encouraged to come out with their highest bid,” Byce said. The winning bidder is required to place a $10,000 deposit and close the transaction no more than 90 days after signing a contract.
