SHARON, Pa. – The Community Foundation of Western Pennsylvania & Eastern Ohio will provide 40,000 meals to families across Mercer County through a grant to the Mercer County Food Bank.
“We are proud to stand alongside the Mercer County Food Bank as they work tirelessly to serve our community,” said Kyle English, executive director of the Community Foundation. “Our goal is to help make sure that no one in Mercer County goes hungry during these difficult times.”
As the community faces the combined challenges of a federal government shutdown, a state budget impasse and the loss of November SNAP benefit payments, the need for food assistance across the county is expected to surge, the food bank said in a news release.
The foundation’s contribution will play a vital role in the food bank’s emergency response efforts.
“The Community Foundation has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to our mission,” said Rebecca Page, executive director of the food bank. “Their willingness to step up without hesitation during these uncertain times ensures that our neighbors will continue to have food on the table when they need it most.”
Last month, the food bank’s board of directors approved an emergency plan that will provide nearly 100,000 meals through its network of member agencies, ensuring they can meet the expected increase in need over the coming months.
The food bank encourages other organizations, businesses and individuals to join in the effort to support local families. For more information or to donate, call 724 981 0353 or visit the food bank’s website.
