COLUMBIANA, Ohio – The new playground project at Firestone Park will receive a $200,000 community match pledge from the Bradford and Patricia Tingle Family Foundation.

To date, approximately $150,000 has been raised by residents and businesses. The campaign needs just $50,000 more to unlock the full matching gift. However, to complete Phase I of the project on the planned timeline for a spring 2026 opening, a total of $680,000 must be raised by Oct. 1.

The new playground will offer an inclusive experience where everyone can play, learn and grow, no matter their ability. The playground will replace Funland, which was built by volunteers and community members in 1995.

The Bradford and Patricia Tingle Family Foundation previously contributed $24,500 to cover the cost of the playground’s initial design, which was developed by Herbert, Rowland & Grubic Inc.

“As someone born and raised in Columbiana, I know the space Harvey S. Firestone Recreational Park holds in our hearts,” Patricia Tingle said. “As a retired educator, I’m also aware of the importance of a safe, inclusive playground for children and, as the founder of R&B, I understand the value of continuing the Firestone Legacy for future generations. I hope others see this, too, and join in our efforts.”

Michaela Good, president of Columbiana Project Playground, which is spearheading the effort, said the group is “incredibly grateful” to the foundation for “believing in this vision since Day One” and helping to bring it close to reality.

“What the Tingle Family Foundation – alongside the dedicated work of the Restoration & Beautification Committee of Columbiana – has accomplished over the past decade is truly remarkable,” Good said. “Their ongoing efforts have completely transformed Firestone Park into a vibrant, welcoming destination that reflects the heart and pride of the Columbiana community. This new playground represents the next chapter in that vision.”
