YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Steel Valley Postal Customer Council and Northern Ohio Postal Customer Council will host a free educational webinar on mailing hazardous materials.
The “Learn About the Mailability of HazMat Materials” webinar will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday via Zoom.
Attendees will learn how to avoid rejected mailings and how to know when a product is actually hazardous. For example, the most common HazMat issue is lithium batteries, a news release states. Many promotional items – flashlights, trackers, greeting cards with sound modules, rechargeable gadgets and power banks – contain lithium batteries. The U.S. Postal Service has specific requirements based on whether the batteries are installed in equipment, packed separately or shipped by air or ground.
The webinar will be presented by Jennifer Cox, a classification specialist at the U.S. Postal Service headquarters for the office of Product Classification and the current team lead for developing and maintaining the policies contained in Publication 52 – Hazardous, Restricted, and Perishable Mail.
