Kara Wasser leaves a nearly two-decade banking career to build a smartphone app. Today, that technology helps domestic violence survivors safely connect with advocates when every second matters.
Kara Wasser discusses the creation of OhanaLink, a mobile communication platform originally designed to help expectant mothers and families stay connected during health care events. The company has since evolved into Looped Solutions, focusing on secure communication tools for domestic violence victim services.
Wasser says personal experiences navigating medical emergencies with family members exposed communication gaps that traditional group texts could not solve. That realization led her to leave her full-time banking career, secure early funding and build the company’s first mobile application despite having no formal technology background.
Originally developed for health care providers, the platform shifted after domestic violence organizations began requesting technology that could safely connect survivors with advocates. Wasser says the company recognized a greater need in victim services and redirected its focus toward creating secure, discreet communication tools for individuals experiencing abuse.
Today, Looped Solutions develops Looped Fusion Purple, a platform that allows domestic violence survivors to communicate with advocates through virtually any smartphone or tablet—even when their devices may be monitored by an abuser. The technology is designed to help organizations deliver support while protecting the safety and privacy of victims.
Wasser says the company’s mission continues to center on using technology to solve real-world problems, helping vulnerable individuals access critical services while giving victim advocates new tools to provide assistance safely and effectively.
