YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Fund for Women & Girls, a community-led fund at the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, will honor the work of five women at its Gems of the Valley event Oct. 16.

The event, which will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, puts the spotlight on women doing important work in their communities, even when that work is often overlooked and unsung.

This year’s honorees are:

  • Nikki Fields, Youngstown director of community, planning and economic development/mayor’s chief of staff.
  • Montez Lockett-Favors, founder of Evolve Mom 2 Mom Network.
  • Madeline Long, high school student.
  • Erica Putro, teacher.
  • Susan Sutton, founder of The Ember Project.
