COLUMBUS, Ohio – A new application round is open for the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program, which helps property owners and developers transform underutilized historic buildings into thriving community assets.
The program, administered by the Ohio Department of Development, provides tax credits for the rehabilitation of qualifying historic structures, encouraging reinvestment in neighborhoods while preserving Ohio’s architectural heritage. Through 36 rounds, the program has helped rehabilitate 1,032 historic buildings across 95 Ohio communities.
“Historic buildings don’t have to be reminders of what a community once was – they can be part of what it becomes,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Department of Development. “By bringing these properties back to life, we’re creating new opportunities for businesses, strengthening neighborhoods and preserving an important part of Ohio’s story.”
Applicants can begin the application process now. To be eligible to submit an application, interested property owners and developers must submit an intent to apply by 4 p.m. Aug. 14.
Applicants must also request a pre-application meeting with the State Historic Preservation Office by 5 p.m. July 31.
