AKRON, Ohio — GelPure, a startup based at the University of Akron, is developing polymer-based filtration materials designed to remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS, from drinking water.

Founded by Moni Ghosh, Brandon McReynolds and Sadhan Jana, the company is part of the Synthe6 Materials Accelerator at Bounce Innovation Hub, which supports materials science ventures with funding and business development resources.

GelPure’s technology uses porous polymers to capture contaminants as water passes through, targeting utilities seeking to meet federal limits on PFAS, or forever chemicals, in drinking water.
