YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the 2024 Democratic nominee for vice president, will bring his People’s Town Hall tour to Youngstown for an event Monday evening.
According to an online notice publicizing the town hall, the event will run from 6-8 p.m., with the location to be provided to everyone who registers for the event 24 hours in advance.
Last month, Walz began touring Republican-held congressional districts to call attention to opposition to President Donald Trump and his administration, and to highlight the representatives of those districts’ lack of engagement with the public. Republican members of Congress have pulled back from such events after facing vocal opposition to the Trump administration’s actions since Trump returned to office.
Monday’s event specifically targets U.S. Rep. Michael Rulli of Salem, R-6th, who was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives to succeed Bill Johnson following his resignation to accept the presidency of Youngstown State University.
“Congressman Michael Rulli has refused to listen to his constituents by holding a public meeting in OH-6,” according to the online event page. “While Congressional Republicans make plans to cut Medicaid, education, and take healthcare access away from Ohioans, they continue to work hand in hand with billionaires to push an agenda that only looks out for themselves.”
A spokesman for Rulli did not respond to an emailed request to comment by publication time.
