Employees at Boardman, Ohio-based public relations firm Houck Agency point to a supportive, relaxed environment that encourages growth as what makes the company a great place to work.
“Working at Houck Agency feels like being part of a small tight-knit team where the environment is relaxed and flexible and everyone is treated like a professional,” writes Kayla Polansky, account assistant.
Amy Hudzik, an account executive, also lauds the company culture.
“Being part of the Houck Agency team means doing impactful work for amazing clients in the Mahoning Valley, while truly having support in an environment that fosters learning, creativity and growth,” she says in her nomination of the company. “Jobs can be demanding, but life can be, too.”
Both give high marks to Jim Houck, the company’s owner.
“We’re given the room to do our work confidently without anyone hovering, and Jim Houck creates a culture where questions are welcomed and never judged,” Polansky writes. “Every day brings something a little different, which keeps the work engaging and gives us plenty of chances to learn and try new things.”
Hudzik says having an authentic “human” boss makes for an enjoyable, relaxed work experience that cultivates positivity and productivity.
“The ability to work from home when needed is also appreciated,” she writes. “Respect and trust are prioritized, questions get answered and the door is always open for a conversation, whether it’s business or a personal matter.”
Polansky concurs.
“New ideas are listened to, collaboration comes naturally and the work feels meaningful because clients genuinely value what we do,” she says in her nomination. “If we need to step out for a quick appointment or lunch, it is handled with understanding, which helps the day flow smoothly and makes it easier to stay focused and productive.”
Hudzik also appreciates the relaxed environment.
“When we don’t have client events or meetings, dress down days are encouraged at the office,” she says. “If it’s Friday, and projects are caught up, we’re free to leave at 3 p.m. An employer who values work-life balance and taking time off is to be treasured. Goals and milestones are acknowledged, and bonuses are often given. There’s also long-term support through a retirement plan.”
Polansky says ideas matter at the Houck Agency, and work is appreciated. “It is not just a good place to build a career. It is a genuinely good place to work,” she says.
