COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Development has released guidelines for the next round of the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program.
The Ohio General Assembly allocated $200 million for the program in House Bill 96, the state operating budget. As required by the bill, $1 million is reserved for applicants in each of Ohio’s 88 counties and will be awarded via a merit-based process.
“This program gives local communities the resources to clean up long abandoned or contaminated sites and prepare them for new development,” said state Rep. Monica Robb Blasdel, R-79th. “By investing in brownfield remediation, we’re helping turn neglected properties into opportunities for economic growth and community revitalization.”
The Brownfield Remediation Program provides funding to help clean up industrial, commercial and institutional brownfield sites that are abandoned, idled or underused due to a known or potential release of hazardous substances or petroleum.
The application will open at 10 a.m. Nov. 12 and close at 5 p.m. Dec. 5.
The Department of Development will host a webinar at 10 a.m. Tuesday to present the guidelines in detail and allow potential applicants to ask any questions.
