NILES, Ohio – David Redig, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of the Mahoning Valley, discusses the organization’s third annual Project Playhouse, which took place Thursday at 7 17 Credit Union Field at Eastwood.

The event brings local organizations together to build, paint and decorate four individualized playhouses for children and their families.

Habitat for Humanity partners with the United Way of Trumbull County to identify the families. Each family provides favorite colors and themes that building teams use to customize the playhouses before unveiling them to the children.

Vallourec, Mahoning County Career & Technical Center and Braceville and Southington United Methodist churches participated in the build. Mays’ Towing donated delivery services to transport the completed playhouses to the four families’ homes.

Redig says Project Playhouse also raises money for Habitat for Humanity’s attainable homeownership mission and larger housing projects in Warren and Youngstown while giving participating businesses an opportunity for team building and community service.

A second Project Playhouse build will take place Oct. 1 at Penguin City Brewing in Youngstown, where teams will construct eight additional playhouses.
