WARREN, Ohio – The River Duck Festival will take place Saturday, April 26, at Perkins Park.

Gates open at 11 a.m., with the Jeep Meet competition and parade at 1 p.m. and the rubber duck race down the Mahoning River at 3 p.m.

Admission is free. Ducks can be purchased for $10. The winning duck will receive $500, with prizes for the top 10 finishers. There will be 1,500 ducks available to purchase for the race.

The event will include vendors, live music, a basket raffle and a 50/50 drawing. The Rotary Club of Warren is the sponsor of the event. For rules and information, go to warrenrotary.org.

 High School Art Exhibition at MCCTC

CANFIELD, Ohio – The annual high school art show will take place May 1, from 3-7 p.m. in the Joyce Brooks Center at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Road.

This free, public exhibition will feature more than 250 works of art created by students from over 20 school districts across Mahoning and Columbiana counties. From detailed drawings and expressive paintings to innovative sculptures and mixed media, the show offers a vibrant glimpse into the minds of our region’s young artists.

The exhibition is presented by the Educational Service Center of Eastern Ohio. 

Poets will Read Works at Lit Youngstown Event

YOUNGSTOWN – The Lit Youngstown First Wednesday Reader Series will present poets Jon Graham of Dover, Ohio, and David Prather of Parkersburg, W.Va., on Wednesday, May 7, at 7 p.m. at Westside Bowl’s Trophy Room, 2617 Mahoning Ave. (accessible only by stairs).

Graham was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, and grew up in coal country. A retired physician, he has published two books: “Everything Waits” (2023) and “The Sky Was Always Underground: A Lyric Memoir of Appalachia” (2024).

Prather is the author of three poetry collections: “We Were Birds” (2019), “Shouting at an Empty House” (2023), and “Bending Light with Bare Hands” (2024). His work has appeared in many publications, including New Ohio Review, Prairie Schooner and The Comstock Review.

The First Wednesday reading in June will feature poets Marion Boyer of Twinsburg, Ohio, and Steve Henn of Warsaw, Ind.

Bicyclists will Tour Columbiana County 

COLUMBIANA, Ohio – Bicyclists from across the region will gather here on May 4 to celebrate spring by participating in a 30-year touring tradition.

The annual tour, known as Spring in Columbiana County, Ohio, (SICCO), originated in 1995. It is sponsored by the Out-Spokin’ Wheelmen bicycling club.

The event, in which all cyclists are invited to ride, will begin at 8 a.m. in Firestone Park, 347 E. Park Ave., Columbiana.

The main cycling route is a flat-to-rolling 35-mile loop through small towns and scenic countryside, which includes the Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail.

Participants will ride at their own paces between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., with support vehicles available for riders needing assistance. SICCO will be held rain or shine.

A snack stop will be at the rail station in historic downtown Lisbon.

After completing the 35-mile loop, riders will receive a Pizza Hut lunch.

Participants can then opt to ride an additional 28-mile loop to achieve a total of 63 miles.

The fee is $30 for advance registration or $35 on the day of the event.

The ride fee includes the snack and lunch.

Helmets must be worn.

Senior Resource Fair at Shepherd of Valley

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio – Shepherd of the Valley will present a senior resource fair at its Liberty community, 1501 Tibbetts-Wick Road, on Wednesday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.

Designed to support the well-being of older adults and their caregivers, the fair will bring together a wide range of local organizations and service providers offering information, resources and giveaways. Attendees will have the chance to engage directly with representatives from senior-focused services—including home care, insurance, therapy, legal support and more. 

Additional highlights of the event include: 

  • Free boxed lunch (while supplies last).
  • Blood pressure checks.
  •  A door prize raffle for all attendees.
