HERMITAGE, Pa. – The city has been awarded a $1.1 million grant by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to improve three local roads that serve 11 businesses and accommodate more than 200 daily truck trips.
“This is a vital investment for Hermitage’s infrastructure and the businesses providing family-sustaining jobs that depend on it,” state Sen. Michele Brooks, R-50th, said in announcing the grant. “These improvements will help ensure local roads can safely and reliably support the businesses that drive our local economy, while also helping the city address significant infrastructure needs.”
The project follows the 2024 merger of the borough of Wheatland into the city. Through the merger, Hermitage assumed responsibility for Wheatland’s local roadways, sewer and stormwater infrastructure.
Planned improvements include base repairs; installation of Superpave asphalt binder and wearing courses; asphalt planing; driveway replacements; manhole adjustments to grade; and shoulder restoration, including topsoil, mulch and seed.
The grant was awarded by PennDOT through its Multimodal Transportation Fund, which supports projects that improve transportation infrastructure and help ensure a safe and reliable transportation system for Pennsylvania residents.
