YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley Historical Society is seeking memorabilia from area pop musicians, venues and performances.

The content it receives will eventually become part of an exhibition that will showcase the Valley’s musical legacy, according to Jessica Trickett, collections manager.

Photos, objects and media items from local artists or venues are being sought.

Many musical artists from the Valley went on to national acclaim, including doo-wop group The Edsels, R&B band Kool & the Gang and progressive rock band Glass Harp.

Local venues also hosted concerts by touring national artists. They include Club Merry-Go-Round (later known as the Torch Club), the Idora Park ballroom, Stambaugh Auditorium, the Tomorrow Club (later known as the Agora), Cedars Lounge and the Nyabinghi.

“In addition to musicians who hit it big, we’re also looking for examples of lesser-known local groups and venues as well,” Trickett said. “The more documentation we can preserve of the local music scene, the better.”
