WARREN, Ohio – The entities that operated Insight Health System’s closed Trumbull County hospitals will finance a $5.1 million global settlement fund to settle a lawsuit filed by former employees.
Under the settlement agreement detailed in a joint motion from both sides this week, the entities will make a $1.3 million initial payment to the fund Dec. 31, followed by $300,000 payments at the end of each quarter, ending Dec. 31, 2029. The settlement must be approved by a federal judge.
Included in that settlement is a $1.3 million accrued vacation settlement fund to pay some of the employees’ “alleged earned, but unpaid, accrued vacation payouts,” the motion says.
The case was filed in the name of employees David McCullough, Angela Foor, Vanessa Satterthwaite and Billie Fike, as well as AFSCME Ohio Council 8, and alleged employees weren’t given fair notice before Insight Rehabilitation Hospital Hillside in Howland and Insight Hospital & Medical Center Trumbull in Warren closed in March 2025.
It also contended employees didn’t receive final paychecks or compensation for unused vacation time and lost their healthcare benefits March 31, 2025.
Insight reopened the Warren hospital emergency room Oct. 14, 2025, with limited staff, but closed again in November.
Insight agreed to surrender its license with the Ohio Department of Health last January but had indicated it hoped to reapply.
