WARREN, Ohio – An agreement has been reached between former employees of Insight Health System’s closed hospitals in Trumbull County and the entities formed to operate them.

Settlement paperwork is pending, according to court documents from the U.S. District Court in Youngstown, and no details are being released yet.

The case filed in the name of employees David McCullough, Angela Foor, Vanessa Satterthwaite and Billie Fike, as well as AFSCME Ohio Council 8, alleged employees were not given fair notice before Insight Rehabilitation Hospital Hillside in Howland and Insight Hospital and Medical Center Trumbull in Warren closed in March 2025.

Additionally, the lawsuit alleged employees did not receive final paychecks or compensation for unused vacation time and lost their health care benefits March 31, 2025.

Insight reopened the Warren hospital emergency room Oct. 14, 2025, with limited staff, only to close it again in November, prompting yet another lawsuit.

Insight agreed to surrender its license with the Ohio Department of Health in January 2026 but has indicated it hopes to reapply.

The initial lawsuit was referred Feb. 18 for mediation before Judge James S. Gwin. According to court documents, a mediation conference was held April 28, and after eight hours and 30 minutes, an agreement was reached and the parties have been asked to make the appropriate filings. Judge Benita Y. Pearson, who was assigned the case, retains jurisdiction to enforce the terms of the settlement agreement.
