WARREN, Ohio – Insight Hospital & Medical Center Trumbull will soon resume 24/7 emergency care with supporting services, the hospital announced Friday.
“We’re grateful for the tremendous cooperation that has brought us to this pivotal point of soon reopening Trumbull as an Insight nonprofit hospital,” a news release from the hospital states, but no opening date was given.
The release states that Insight continues to await an Ohio Department of Health review and has begun reaching out to staff, nurses and doctors about their potential return.
Deb Bindas, AFSCME Ohio Council 8 regional director, confirmed Friday that some nurses in the union have received recall notices.
Insight Health System closed the Warren hospital March 27, along with Insight Rehabilitation Hospital Hillside in Howland. Friday’s announcement doesn’t mention the Howland hospital.
Insight acquired the two hospitals through Steward Health Care System’s bankruptcy, filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Houston in May 2024.
Prior to closing the Warren hospital, Insight had been slowly cutting back services. Friday’s announcement states that after the emergency department reopens, the hospital intends to expand services in response to the needs of the community.
Dr. Jawad Shah, CEO of Insight Health System, met with Trumbull County commissioners, Warren Mayor Doug Franklin and other elected officials Aug. 6 and indicated at that time that the Warren hospital would reopen in a matter of weeks.
