CHAMPION, Ohio – Inspiring Minds will host its third annual IMpower Youth Conference on Saturday.
More than 100 local students in grades six through 12 from Warren and Youngstown are expected to gather at the conference at Kent State University at Trumbull.
Students will participate in sessions focused on college, careers, physical and mental health and wellness, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, Black history, African drumming, art, music and more.
The keynote speaker is Shaundra Daily, the Cue Family professor of practice in electrical and computer engineering at Duke University. Her research focuses on the design, implementation and evaluation of technologies, programs and curricula to support diversity, equity and inclusion in STEM fields.
During the conference, students will also have opportunities to earn prizes such as scholarships, laptops and gift cards to further their educational exploration.
The IMpower Conference is part of the Inspiring Minds After-School Enrichment Program, which serves more than 300 students annually in third through 12th grades in the Mahoning Valley. The after-school program runs weekly, Monday through Thursday, from September through May.
IM students participate in homework help and tutoring, college visits, career exposure, industry tours, entrepreneurship, physical fitness, cooking and nutrition lessons, community investment projects, exposure trips and more.
