NILES, Ohio – More than 70 college interns from Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties and beyond gathered for Mahoning Valley Intern Day, a daylong event designed to connect students with community leaders, local employers and each other.

Hosted by the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber and Mahoning Valley Young Professionals, the event offered networking opportunities, professional development sessions and activities aimed at showcasing the region and encouraging young professionals to stay in the Valley after graduation. Attendees received professional headshots, heard from local business leaders and ended the day with a Scrappers game and behind-the-scenes stadium tour.

“We hosted this event because we knew that there are so many interns, college interns, that are working at chamber member businesses around the Valley over the summer,” said Brenda Linert, director of community impact at the Regional Chamber. “We wanted to have an opportunity … to get them an opportunity to get to know each other, to engage with one another, and also to engage with a lot of the businesses in the area.”

Steven Weeden, president of Mahoning Valley Young Professionals, called the event “an amazing place to network,” where interns could “just get in the room with people” and “find out why they stayed, why they are continuing to stay.”
