Job Posting Continued to Decrease in June

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The trend of fewer jobs postings to OhioMeansJobs.com continued through at least mid-June.

According to the state of Ohio, a total of 163,582 job openings were posted to the job search website from May 14 to June 13, 2023. A decrease of 7,771 ads from the previous reporting period, the figure reflects a downward trend since January and an overall drop of 102,533 ads since the same period a year ago.

Top occupations sought across the state included registered nurses, supervisors of retail sales workers, retail salespersons, social and human service assistants, truck drivers, food service supervisors, stock clerks, maintenance and repair workers, customer service, food service, cashiers, nursing assistants, accountants and auditors.

A decrease of 3,287 job posting also was reported in the Northeast Ohio region, which includes Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties. The region tallied 53,874 job openings posted, which was down 37,636 ads from a year ago.

Registered nurses also topped the list of occupations with openings advertised in the region, followed by retail supervisors, retail sales, truck drivers, food service supervisors, stock clerks, food service workers, customer service and cashiers.

Regionally, most jobs posted fell into the entry-level middle-income and upper-middle-income categories at 19.4%, 30.4% and 27.7% respectively, while across the state 17.5% were entry-level (less than $30,000), 29.3% were middle-income jobs ($30,000 to $49,000) and 27.8% were upper-middle income ($50,000 to $79,000).

Most jobs in the northeast Ohio region require a GED or high school, 51%, while 28.4% seek someone with a bachelor’s degree and 13.6% require an associate’s degree. Statewide 47.7% require a GED or high school followed by 32.1% requiring a bachelor’s degree.

Employers with most job postings from this area include Dollar General, McDonalds, Akron Children’s Hospital, Walmart, Circle K, Bob Evans, CVS Health, Giant Eagle, AutoZone, Pizza Hut, Dunkin’ Donuts, PNC Financial Services, Youngstown City Schools, Bon Secours Health System and TJX Companies.
