COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of job openings decreased throughout the state and regionally between August and September, according to OhioMeansJobs.
In Eastern Ohio’s four-county region – which covers Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties – 5,459 jobs were posted on OhioMeansJobs.com between Aug. 14 and Sept. 13, the agency reported.
That’s a decrease of 253 advertisements posted from the prior reporting period and a decrease of 1,758 from a year ago.
Statewide, the number of job openings over the period reached 156,546, a decrease of 1,685 from a month ago. The latest job openings represent a decrease of 47,436 from the same period a year ago.
Regionally, most jobs are middle income, 37.1%, and upper middle income, 31.5%; followed by six-figure jobs, 11.1%; entry-level jobs, 10.2%; and high-income jobs, 10.1%. Most jobs, 48.6%, require a GED or high school diploma, while 26.6% require a bachelor’s degree; 16.1% an associate’s degree; 4.7% a doctoral degree; and 3.9% a master’s degree.
The top jobs sought in the region are registered nurses at 376; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 376; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 286; retail salespersons, 244; and stockers and order fillers, 115.
Statewide, most jobs are upper middle income, 29%, and middle income, 26.7%; followed by six-figure jobs, 23.3%; high-income jobs, 14.7%; and entry-level jobs, 6.4%. Most jobs require at least a bachelor’s degree, 39.6%; while 39.5% require a GED or high school diploma; 13% an associate’s degree; 4.5% a doctoral degree; and 3.3% a master’s degree.
The top jobs with advertisements across the state are heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers at 8,006; registered nurses, 7,455; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 5,681; retail salespersons, 4,940; and stockers and order fillers, 2,933.
