COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of job openings in statewide and regional labor markets decreased between November and December, according to OhioMeansJobs.
In Eastern Ohio’s four-county region – which covers Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties – 6,134 jobs were posted on OhioMeansJobs.com between Nov. 14 and Dec. 13, the agency reported.
That’s a decrease of 704 advertisements posted from the prior reporting period but an increase of 69 from a year ago.
Statewide, the number of job openings over the period reached 184,687, a decrease of 16,554 from a month ago. The latest job openings represent an increase of 7,441 from the same period a year ago.
Regionally, most jobs are middle income, 34.2%, and upper middle income, 27.7%; followed by entry-level jobs, 18.6%; six-figure jobs, 10.7%; and high-income jobs, 8.8%. Most jobs, 50.3%, require a GED or high school diploma, while 22.7% require a bachelor’s degree; 18.2% an associate’s level degree; 4.9% a doctoral degree; and 3.8% a master’s degree.
The top jobs sought in the region are registered nurses at 507; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 376; retail salespersons, 363; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 339; and first-line supervisors of food preparation and serving workers, 144.
Statewide, most jobs are upper middle income, 26.7%, and middle income, 26%; followed by six-figure jobs, 23.4%; high-income jobs, 13.1%; and entry-level jobs, 10.8%. Most jobs require at least a GED or high school diploma, 39.1%; while 36.3% require a bachelor’s degree; 17.1% an associate’s degree; 4.3% a doctoral degree; and 3.2% a master’s degree.
The top jobs with advertisements across the state are registered nurses at 13,047; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 6,706; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 6,551; retail salespersons, 6,307; and stockers and order fillers, 3,605.
