COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of job openings in statewide and regional labor markets decreased between January and February, according to OhioMeansJobs.

In Eastern Ohio’s four-county region – which covers Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties – 5,325 jobs were posted on OhioMeansJobs.com between Jan. 14 and Feb. 13, the agency reported.

That’s a decrease of 716 advertisements posted from the prior reporting period and a decrease of 864 from a year ago.

Statewide, the number of job openings over the period reached 159,164, a decrease of 12,576 from a month ago. The latest job openings represent a decrease of 9,245 from the same period a year ago.

Regionally, most jobs are middle income, 34.3%, and upper middle income, 28.5%; followed by entry-level jobs, 16.7%; six-figure jobs, 11.2%; and high-income jobs, 9.3%. Most jobs, 51.6%, require a GED or high school diploma, while 25.6% require a bachelor’s degree; 13.7% an associate’s level degree; 5.2% a doctoral degree; and 3.9% a master’s degree.

The top jobs sought in the region are first-line supervisors of retail sales workers at 433; registered nurses, 399; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 369; retail salespersons, 338; and stockers and order fillers, 119.

Statewide, most jobs are upper middle income, 26.9%, and middle income, 26.4%; followed by six-figure jobs, 24.9%; high-income jobs, 12.4%; and entry-level jobs, 9.3%. Most jobs require at least a bachelor’s degree, 41.3%; while 37.3% require a GED or high school diploma; 13.6% an associate’s degree; 4.6% a doctoral degree; and 3.2% a master’s degree.

The top jobs with advertisements across the state are registered nurses at 9,076; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 7,326; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 6,402; retail salespersons, 5,276; and stockers and order fillers, 3,258.
