COLUMBUS, Ohio – The number of job openings increased throughout the state but were down regionally between February and March, according to OhioMeansJobs.
In Eastern Ohio’s four-county region – which covers Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull and Ashtabula counties – 5,215 jobs were posted on OhioMeansJobs.com between Feb. 14 and March 13, the agency reported.
That’s a decrease of 110 advertisements posted from the prior reporting period and a decrease of 495 from a year ago.
Statewide, the number of job openings over the period reached 161,663, an increase of 2,499 from a month ago. The latest job openings represent a decrease of 16,431 from the same period a year ago.
Regionally, most jobs are middle income, 34.8%, and upper middle income, 26.6%; followed by entry-level jobs, 17.3%; six-figure jobs, 11.9%; and high-income jobs, 9.4%. Most jobs, 48.4%, require a GED or high school diploma, while 27.9% require a bachelor’s degree; 15% an associate’s level degree; 5.4% a master’s degree; and 3.3% a doctoral degree.
The top jobs sought in the region are heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers at 377; registered nurses, 368; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 293; retail salespersons, 282; and first-line supervisors of food preparation and serving workers, 118.
Statewide, most jobs are upper middle income, 27.1%, and middle income, 26.3%; followed by six-figure jobs, 23.6%; high-income jobs, 12.6%; and entry-level jobs, 10.5%. Most jobs require at least a bachelor’s degree, 42%; while 38.5% require a GED or high school diploma; 12.1% an associate’s degree; 4.6% a doctoral degree; and 2.9% a master’s degree.
The top jobs with advertisements across the state are registered nurses at 9,194; heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers, 7,350; first-line supervisors of retail sales workers, 5,707; retail salespersons, 5,036; and stockers and order fillers, 3,182.
