YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A Business Journal event designed to equip young professionals and business leaders with skills and insights to navigate today’s evolving workplace is just over a month away.
The inaugural Next Generation Leadership Forum is scheduled for 1-5:45 p.m. May 22 at Eastwood Event Centre in Niles.
It is part of The Business Journal’s Next Generation series, which highlights the importance of empowering young professionals and fostering local talent in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys. That’s critical if the region is going to prosper and grow.
Tax breaks, infrastructure investments, low-interest loans and grants aren’t enough to attract new employers and encourage existing ones to expand.
Area business leaders cite attracting and keeping qualified employees – from service and manufacturing employees to degreed professionals – as a chief concern. And new employers will be reluctant to enter this market without a workforce that can meet their needs.
The forum will include sessions on building leadership skills early and how community engagement fuels leadership and growth.
The sessions will be followed by a panel discussion addressing strategies for engaging multiple generations in the workplace. The event will conclude with a networking mixer.
Michael B. Ross, principal at High Performance and author of The Leadership Edge, will moderate the event, which includes guests from the nonprofit, academic, financial and other industries.
It is often said in business circles that capital goes where it is welcome. That includes human capital. For too long, this region has watched its young leave the area for what they see as greener pastures – where they can find better employment opportunities, quality of life and local leadership options, both in the public and private sectors.
Maximizing this region’s opportunities to remain economically competitive depends on this demographic.
Admission to the forum is free but attendees must register in advance. Go to Eventbrite.com and search for Next Generation Leadership Forum.
Come help be a part of the future of the Mahoning and Shenango valleys.
