YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – For anyone who’s missed the messaging so far, this year’s Independence Day marks the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, which declared the 13 colonies in North America were no longer subject to the British Crown.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime event. To mark the occasion, The Business Journal will focus on stories related to the semiquincentennial.

Specifically, our reporters are looking for individuals, businesses and organizations with connections to the historic event. Do any residents of the Mahoning and Shenango valleys have blood relations to people who participated in the American Revolution? Are any area businesses taking part in the event by making products tied into the celebration? What local organizations have made plans to hold events in conjunction with the anniversary?

Earlier this year, Berk Enterprises in Warren reported it was producing America250-branded concession cups to be sold at fairs and ballfields nationwide. The village of Newton Falls launched a treasure hunt this spring that’s drawn attention from outside the U.S. The city of Youngstown announced it would collaborate with the Rotary Club of Youngstown, in partnership with Economic Action Group and Youngstown CityScape, to present a July 5 concert featuring the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra and fireworks.

We’re certain there are more such stories that we aren’t aware of, and we’re counting on our readers to fill us in.

If you have information or suggestions that deserve attention, email them to us at info@business-journal.com. Please do it as soon as possible, so our editorial team has time to contact the people involved and write stories.

The edition will be published in mid-June.

We look forward to celebrating this landmark Fourth of July with you.
