WASHINGTON – Several U.S. lawmakers sent a letter to Department of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth this week urging the finalization of funding for a fire station military construction project at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.
As the base continues its transition to the new C-130J, it has received “widespread support for a new fire station to meet the mission requirements of this airframe investment,” states the joint letter from U.S. Sens. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, and Jon Husted, R-Ohio, and U.S. Reps. Dave Joyce, R-14th, Michael Rulli, R-6th, and Mike Turner, R-10th.
YARS received $2.5 million in fiscal year 2024 for the planning and design of a new fire station. It’s now ready to move forward with construction.
“Given the clear recognition of the importance of this project at the Pentagon and in Congress, it is our hope that $25 million will be designated for construction of the YARS fire station through the funds provided by the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025, signed into law by President [Donald] Trump on March 15, 2025,” the letter states.
