YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – More than 120 attendees gathered recently at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown as the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown hosted its 10th annual Hall of Fame celebration.
The Hall of Fame, established in 2016, honors women of the Mahoning Valley who make significant impacts in the community.
This year’s honorees are:
- Carole Safier Weimer, retired educator and community volunteer.
- Cryshanna Jackson Leftwich, professor of public affairs and politics at Youngstown State University.
- Traci Hostetler, superintendent of the Educational Services Center of Eastern Ohio.
- Honeya Price, founder and director of SWAG Sisters and member of Warren City Council.
- Tina M. Chance, director of resource development for the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley.
- Debbie McBride Woodford, owner of 4S Fabricators and administrative assistant to the Mahoning County auditor.
JoAnn Johntony was honored posthumously. Johntony, who died in 2023, was president emeritus of OAPSE/AFSCME Local 4.
Maureen O’Connor, retired chief justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, received the Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her leadership in the 2024 Citizens Not Politicians Campaign.
Lisa Lee Kohler, co-president, gave an address at the March 27 event that underscored the organization’s fundamental mission: empowering voters to actively participate in democracy. Kohler emphasized the organization’s ongoing dedication to promoting voter access, providing robust voter education resources and advocating for policies that benefit all members of the community, particularly women and children.
