YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sales of new cars and trucks to residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in April soared nearly 36% compared to the same period a year ago, data show.
The Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association reports that customers in the three-county region purchased 2,989 new vehicles in April versus 2,200 sold in April 2024, an increase of 35.8%.
Sales of new vehicles last month jumped across northeastern Ohio, as dealers reported customers rushed to purchase new autos before tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on foreign-made vehicles and components took effect.
Among local dealers, Boardman Subaru sold 201 new units; Fairway Ford, Canfield, sold 170; #1 Cochran Buick GMC, Boardman, and Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, each sold 143 new cars and trucks; Ken Ganley Kia, Boardman, sold 133; and Cochran Chevrolet sold 131 new units during the month.
Sales of used cars and trucks also improved during the month, according to the Dealers’ report. Last month, dealers reported they sold 2,351 used vehicles to buyers in the three counties, compared to 2,121 sold during the same month a year ago – an increase of 10.8%.
Retail sales are based on vehicle registrations processed by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
