POLAND, Ohio – This year’s Locker 1 & 2 Golf Outing raised a record $308,000 for the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, bringing the event’s total fundraising to more than $1 million since it began in 2015.
The golf outing was the vision of Leo Henry of Muransky Companies and Bob Conger of Consolidated Electrical Distributors. In its first year, the event raised $16,000. From the beginning, Henry and Conger challenged themselves to grow the event each year, a news release states.
Eleven years later, that vision has grown into a charitable golf event that consistently draws a sold-out field and a waiting list of golfers hoping to participate.
The event reached another level in 2023 when Henry and Conger connected with professional John Daly, who attended the outing for the first time that year.
“John has become a friend, not just to Cong and me, but to Youngstown,” Henry said. “He has a fun reputation that he brings to the golf course, but at the end of the day, he truly cares about those in need. He shows it through everything he donates to the outing. It’s been an honor to work with him and to watch this event grow into what it is today.”
The Locker 1 & 2 Golf Outing is held each year at The Lake Club, where Henry and Conger are assigned lockers No. 1 and No. 2 – hence the name.
“The generosity of everyone involved in this outing is absolutely amazing,” said Bob Hannon, president of the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. “When Leo and Bob came to us wanting to do this outing, we could never have imagined the success it would become. John Daly’s involvement took it to a whole new level. These three guys are dedicated and determined to raise money to help our neighbors in need.”
