YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – At any given time, Mahoning County Children Services has between 150 to 200 children in foster care. To help meet the need, the agency is seeking more licensed foster caregivers and foster homes in the county.
The agency is especially in need of foster caregivers who can accommodate sibling groups and teens ages 13 to 18, a news release states. In addition, the agency needs a variety of placement options within the community, including foster caregivers who can provide temporary respite care to licensed foster families and those willing to accept emergency and after-hours placements for children entering foster care.
To encourage community members to learn more about fostering, Mahoning County Children Services will host a foster caregiver information event from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Boardman Library. Anyone interested in becoming a licensed foster caregiver in the county or learning more about the process is encouraged to attend.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and speak with an agency representative.
Information will be available, including the agency’s current fostering needs, the foster caregiver licensing process and available financial assistance and support services.
