CANFIELD, Ohio – Marie Dockry and Richard S. Scarsella, Mahoning County Career & Technical Center board members, were recently honored at the Ohio School Boards Association Northeast Regional’s spring dinner.

Dockry, who has served as a board member for 30 years, was recognized with the 30-Year Veteran Board Member honor.

“I feel so inspired to serve and feel education is so important,” Dockry said. “As a former guidance counselor and now a board member, it is so important to provide the avenues for students to succeed. Public education is so important, and as board members, we work to provide that to our students.”

Scarsella was honored for his 20 years of service.

“It has been my pleasure to serve on the board for 20 years,” Scarsella said. “We have great board members, good administrators, highly trained instructors, modern labs, amazing students and wonderful families in our educational community.”

Scarsella emphasized the importance of strong leadership in public education.

“The governing board of the MCCTC wants what is best for the students and the community,” he said. “As a retired educator, I am glad I was able to add my expertise and voice to make the MCCTC one of the best career and technical centers in Ohio. Success is not by accident. Success is the result of strategic planning, commitment, best practices and hard work.”
